In cool NW maestral wind of 8 knots we managed
to sail 2 regattas.

The wind was not cooperative during the whole
morning, but in the afternoon the expected NW wind started. After
the first start, the wind shifted to north, towards the big oncoming
clouds. The strong northern wind (bora) reached us in 20 minutes,
with 20kn wind speed.
We moved the racing field and raced 3 difficult regattas for younger
competitors.Youngest had more problems with the wind and waves but
they bravely fought the forces of nature.
Regattas were a success for organizers and slovenian competitors
also, since Dany Stanisic returned to the second place in golden
group.
Tomorrow not more than 3 regattas will be sailed and no start will
be after 15:00 hours, local time. |

9 regattas were saild in strong N wind, 3 for
every fleet. Results will be soon, along with the daily pictures!

With 5 regattas sailed the qualifications are
valid . Groups for finals are published.

The weather was perfect - for suntanning and
swimming, not for sailing.
No wind. Absolutely none.

Sunny weather but plenty of clouds are not a
good sign in these parts. Qualifications are valid, since 5 regattas
were sailed, therefore the competitors are waiting ashore for
better sailing conditions.

Not a single forecast was even near the wind situation
we faced in the morning. Strong but unstable SSW, followed by a
stable but light S wind. We tried to sail a regatta but wind simply
ceased to be.
Foul looking clouds were closing in from the north so we moved closer
to the coast, but the clouds dissolved and the day was saved by
the fresh wind from NW. Finally, some tipical weather and wind conditions
for this time of the year!
We managed to sail all scheduled regattas. The competitors were
quite happy and joyful, regardless of the 4 hour waiting in hot
sun.
Best Slovenian sailors are Dany Stanisic on 2. place, Vito Batistic
(20th place) and Nik Pletikos (29th place). Best Slovenian female
is Spela Juhart on 16th place. |

is cool and the sun is lazily protruding through the clouds. |

In the late afternoon the wind finally blew and
12kn of the SSW wind were a blessing for all the competitors. After
11 starting procedures, abandoned due to the wind shift or lack
of wind, the competitors saild the course in a stable wind.
The protests prolonged the evening. |

Due to unstable wind conditions we started the
second race for all fleets but had to abandon the regattas.
The weather doesn't want to hear a single word about the weather
forecast. ;) |

After two hours of waiting on water, the wind
returned and we managed to sail one race in 5 kn of NW wind.
Leaders in men group are Kenneth Nieste (NED), Matej Valic (SLO),
Ivan Maras (CRO) and Dany Stanisic (SLO), best women are Roksana
Szablinska (POL), Tuula Tenkanen (FIN) and Susana Romero (ESP).

Following the succesfull starts of the first
race, the wind suddenly stopped and race committee had to abandon
the race.
On the first mark Vito Batistic was on the third place and Nik
Pletikos was fourth, which is quite promising for Slovenian competitors.

Saturday July 16
After the afternoon warm-up race in light wind conditions,
the participants of the Laser 4.7 Europeans gathered at the opening
ceremony of the Championship. First word went to Stanislav Zbogar,
president of the Slovenian Sailing Federation and the host club
Burja. Then the Mayor of Izola, Mrs. Breda Pecan, declared the
Championship open.
After that the participants had a welcome BBQ at the club.
Sunday July 17
First day of racing for 198 participants (22 countries)
divided in three racing groups (two boys and one for girls). Weather
forecast for today: bright with light ENE winds. First start at
13.00 local time (11.00 UTC). Two races are planed for today.
