More than two decades ago members of Yacht Club BURJA in Izola, have organized a regatta, in the Spring time, when most of the North European sailors do not have suitable conditions for sailing, which is now called the IZOLA SPRING CUP.
In the eighties, YC Burja built a new club house, on a more suitable site, so we had better conditions for our work and also became able to host a larger number of guest competitors. After a successfully finished Mediterranean Championship for the Europe Class, we have organized the Europe Class World Championship in 1992, and after that a number of important sailing events including World and European Championships. That was in the year of the founding of the European Union (1992). Slovenia is also part of it, becoming a European Union member state in May 2004 and since January 1st 2008, we have no more boundaries with EU. Thus there is even a bigger freedom of movement of people and goods ... making Slovenia, Izola and our small part of the Mediterranean, with its excellent sailing grounds, even closer and more open to all Europe.
Coming to Izola, situated in the S of The Gulf of Trieste, just ten kilometres from Trieste, is simple, by highway, from all parts of Europe. Being a popular tourist resort, there are also numerous and adequate accommodation and other facilities in Izola and its surroundings. That is also why the Izola Spring Cup regatta is becoming more and more popular. In the last years we were hosting more than 300 competitors from up to 20 countries, with numerous teams spending their entire Easter Holidays in Izola.
This year Izola Spring Cup shall take place from March 19 to 24, with racing for seven Classes: 470 men (ISAF Grade 2), 470 women (ISAF Grade 2), Laser (ISAF Grade 3), Laser Radial women (ISAF Grade 3), Laser radial men, Laser 4.7 open and 420 open.
The Slovenian Olympic sailors and crews will be competing in the Regatta, as also the most successful team of the last Laser 4.7 World's, the Slovenian Team.
Welcome!
